Why are circuit boards so colorful?

As we all know, circuit boards come in a variety of colors, so why are they so diverse? Today, let xiaobian take you to understand the truth.

According to the number of layers, the circuit board is divided into three categories: single board, double board, multi-layer board.

The common PCB colors on the market are green, black, blue, yellow, purple, red and brown. Recently, there are PCBS in different colors, such as white and pink.

In PCB production, the final surface of the copper layer is smooth and unprotected, either by addition or subtraction. Although copper is chemically inferior to pure aluminum, iron, and magnesium copper, it readily oxidizes in contact with oxygen under water conditions. Because the thickness of the copper layer in the PCB is very thin, the copper oxide will become an electrical conductor, which will greatly damage the electrical performance of the entire PCB.

Why are circuit boards so colorful?

To prevent copper oxidation, the design engineer protects the surface of the PCB by separating the welded and non-welded parts of the PCB. A special coating is applied to the surface of the PCB to form a thick protective layer that prevents the copper from contacting the air. The coating is called solder resistance layer and the material used is solder resistance coating.

PCB usually requires small text printed on the board for easy maintenance and manufacturing.

To this end, engineers added various colors to the solder resist paint, resulting in black, red and blue PCBS.

From this point of view, the color of the PCB board has nothing to do with the quality of the PCB.

Other color PCBS, such as black PCB and blue PCB, yellow PCB, will have a different color when the last brush. If the PCB is designed and manufactured exactly the same, the color will not have any effect on performance or heat dissipation.

In recent years, more PCB board colors have been used for ease of manufacture and maintenance, such as dark green, dark brown, and dark blue.
